Vishu, the festival celebrated in Kerala (South India) marks the first day of astronomical new year as per Malayalam Calendar. It is called Medam maasam (month).

On the day, malayalees (people from Kerala) wake up to see the Vishu Kani, which is prepared earlier day. With an idol of Lord Krishna in centre, the Kani gets its form with vegetables and fruits along with rice, Kani Konna (flower species: Cassia fistula).

Kani Konna is the regional flower of Kerala state.
